Prevention of public nuisance

Environmental Health, the Public Protection Partnership Environmental Quality team, are the ‘Responsible Authority’ for the ‘Public Nuisance Objective’ which means that we are consulted by the Licensing Authority on new premises licence applications, licence variation applications and Temporary Event Notices.

Our aim is to ensure that noise and disturbance from licenced premises is minimised to protect nearby residents. Environmental Health work alongside the Licensing Team and the Premises License Holders in order to resolve any issues.

Our role includes the monitoring of outdoor events and festivals particularly during the summer months to ensure that organisers comply with their licence conditions and do not cause a public nuisance. We advise Licence Holders on how to control the noise and we have developed guidance to help them prepare noise management plans.
