Apply
All drivers, vehicles and operators involved in any kind of hire or reward work need to be licensed. This ensures that people who are 'unfit' due to previous criminal behaviour are not allowed to drive taxis or private hire vehicles and that safety is paramount.
The hackney carriage and private hire licensing criminal convictions policy provides guidance on the criteria taken into account by the council when determining whether or not an applicant or an existing licence holder is a fit and proper person to hold a driver or operator licence. This document supersedes the policy at appendix A of the guidance notes document.
During the application process, drivers undertake various assessments. These include a:
- group 2 medical - with your GP or with Occupational Health
- two character references
- practical driving assessment
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
- Bracknell Council Knowledge Test
- proof of eligibility to work in the UK
- disability training - see link below
- safeguarding training - see link below
