23 December 2024 – Press Release - Trading Standards Needs Your Help

Are you aged between 15 and 17 and looking for a volunteering opportunity to bolster your CV? The PPP is offering an excellent opportunity to do this. It can also illustrate ‘community service’ for those doing Duke of Edinburgh awards and similar schemes, and can be used as evidence of key skills for job applications and university entrance forms.

As part of their work on Community Safety and the reduction of Anti-Social Behaviour in the area, Trading Standards routinely carry out undercover purchasing of age restricted products, such as vapes, fireworks and alcohol.

In order to do this we need to recruit volunteers to assist with this work, which will take place out of school hours throughout the year and be conducted under Officer supervision. Full training will be given, and if at any time the volunteer does not wish to proceed, the operation will be cancelled.

Many volunteers use the work they do with us to assist them in finding part time jobs. We also provide references for College and University applications. Some volunteers have even used their time with us to go towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

If you know of any children aged 15-17 years old, who live within the West Berkshire, Wokingham Borough or Bracknell Forest areas and wish to apply to work with us please contact Francesca Berry – francesca.berry1@westberks.gov.uk

Due to the nature of this work our Officers will discuss fully with the volunteers and their parents/guardians, the nature and implications of the work to be carried out.  A full briefing and training will then be given to all successful candidates.
