Abandoned Puppies in Silver Hill, Bracknell Forest.
The PPP Animal Warden team would like to say a huge thank you to the two different members of public who found three puppies on Monday evening that had been abandoned around Silver Hill in Bracknell Forest.
Monday evening was cold and wet and the three puppies were not in a good condition at all. Thankfully Nine Mile Veterinary Hospital in Finchampstead have taken extra special care of the three puppies this week, who have required a lot of veterinary attention. The pups were all well enough yesterday for the Animal Wardens to move them on to one of our trusted rescue centres, who will continue to look after them and give them the care and love they need until they are well enough will be able to find new, forever homes.
The whole team have been shocked at the condition of these puppies and how anyone could have abandoned them. Please if anyone has any information as to where the puppies came from please call the animal warden team on 01635 519171 in confidence.
Unfortunately we have started to see an increase in the number of dogs that have been used for breeding and puppies being abandoned. If you are considering buying a puppy please follow some simple guidelines to put a stop to the mistreatment of bitches and puppies:
• Always see a puppy and their mum together at their home and make sure to visit more than once.
• Research the breeder. Are they licensed? Any person who breeds more than three litters a year, and/or sells the puppies with a view to making a profit will need a licence. Licensed breeders will be happy to show you a copy of their license issued from their local authority. If they’re not licensed and are advertising their dogs for sale for a fee that indicates higher than covering expenses then please feel free to contact us to see if the breeder should be licensed.
• Never pay a deposit up-front without seeing the puppy in person.
• Ask lots of questions and make sure you see all vital paperwork, such as a puppy contract - which gives lots of information about their parents, breed, health, diet, the puppy's experiences and more.
• Reputable breeders will be asking you lots of questions too. They will want to make sure their puppy is going to a good, safe home. If they’re not asking you questions about your home, lifestyle etc. then re-think if they’re a genuine breeder.
• Consider a rescue dog. There are many, many dog rescue centres across the UK with thousands of rescue dogs looking for a home. All dogs will have had a health check and as much background information as possible will be provided by the rescue centre.
