Big Help Out launch – Baroness Scott calls communities to get involved

The Big Help Out app was launched earlier this week (20 March). The Big Help Out, which will take place on the bank holiday of the Coronation (8 May), is a voluntary initiative which aims to raise awareness of volunteering and provide opportunities for people to offer support in their communities. The app seeks to provide a quick, clear and easy way for individuals to find and select suitable opportunities.

Baroness Scott of Bybrook OBE, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Faith and Communities at DLUHC, is calling for councils and communities to get involved with the Big Help Out and to encourage local activity. Baroness Scott asks councils to promote engagement with the event, including sharing details of the app locally, and to encourage their community groups, voluntary sector and residents to get involved.

The Big Help Out is supported by some of the UK’s biggest volunteer organisations, including the Scouts and the Royal Voluntary Service, but it is open to all volunteer-involving organisations regardless of size.
