10th December 2020 - Eat, Drink and be Merry – a familiar festive phrase!

Eat, Drink and be Merry – a familiar festive phrase!

Drink, however doesn’t always have to be alcoholic. There are an increasing number of non-alcoholic drinks available, many of them manufactured by very well-known brands. There’s also lots of fabulous mocktail recipes and great fun can be had, playing the cocktail bar tender. All the family can enjoy a mocktail plus many contain fruit and fruit juices that contribute to your five a day!

Did you know that alcohol is actually a depressant so doesn’t make you merry. Alcohol is a depressant, addictive drug. Whilst you are drinking it may make you feel you’re happy and merry, but it is however having the reverse effect on your brain, it is lowering your mood, increasing levels of anxiety and depression. Plus no-one enjoys a hangover!

All that said, if you do choose to indulge in alcoholic beverages this festive season then try not to exceed your 14 units of alcohol a week. Familiarise yourself with what a unit looks like and spread these out over a week rather than saving them all up for the weekend. Perhaps alternate between alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks and always have a glass of water to hand alongside your alcoholic drink.
