5th May 2022 - Elcot Hotel Licensing Hearing Cancelled

Elcot Hotel Licensing Hearing Cancelled

Mediation to allay concerns about the application to vary the premise licence for the Elcot Park Hotel near Hungerford has been successfully concluded.

Solicitors for the Applicant, Signet Hotels Ltd, have been in discussions with the objector’s representatives and have now confirmed that as agreement about additional conditions has been reached the objections have been withdrawn. The hearing scheduled for Friday the 06th May to consider this application has therefore been cancelled.

Signet Hotels Ltd submitted an application to vary their existing premise licence on the 25 March 2022. The application sought to amend the existing licence to cover the whole property, allow the screening of films outdoors between May and October, allow the playing of outdoor live and recorded music, facilitate the offsite sale of alcohol and to remove the performance of play and boxing and wrestling entertainment from the current licence. The application sought to extend all licensable activities, alcohol, music, and dancing to members of the public and did not limit these events to hotel patrons and their guests.

During the 28 day statutory consultation that ran from the 26 March 2022 to 22 April 2022 the Licensing Authority received two objections; one from Sir Richard Sutton Estates the freehold owners of the land surrounding the Elcot Park Hotel boundary and the other from a local farmer, Mr Henry Moore, who leased the neighbouring land to raise a large beef herd of breeding bulls, and cows and heifers both in calf or with calves.

The objectors raised a number of concerns about the impact the granting of the licence as per the application could have on the breeding beef herd and neighbours.

The Licensing Authority encourages mediation between the parties to reach a mutually agreeable solution outside of the formal meeting process and the hearing can be cancelled up to 24 hours before the meeting is due to take place. In this case, following discussions between the parties, agreement has been reached on additional conditions to address the concerns raised and there is therefore no need for the hearing to go ahead.
