13th July 2023 - Have Your Say on the Statement of Licensing Policy

Have Your Say on the Statement of Licensing Policy

West Berkshire Council is inviting residents, businesses, councillors, relevant organisations and statutory partners to comment on its updated Draft Statement of Licensing Policy.

The policy sets out the licensing authority’s approach to the Council’s licensing functions in accordance with the Licensing Act 2003 and supports the licensing objectives of the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, the prevention of public nuisance and the protection of children from harm.

It must be reviewed every five years. The current policy was adopted in December 2018.

Cllr. Lee Dillon, Executive Member for Public Protection says, “It’s important that the Council has a robust policy in place that sets out clearly how they determine applications under the Licensing Act 2003.

We’re proposing a few minor changes to the current policy and would welcome your views as to how well the draft policy supports the key objectives.”

When the consultation has ended, Officers will consider the responses and make any appropriate amendments to the draft Statement of Licensing Policy. This draft will be considered at the November 2023 Licensing Committee meeting who will then make a recommendation to full Council about the adoption of a revised policy.

The consultation opens on the 12th July and will remain open for ten weeks to take into consideration that the consultation will fall over the summer holiday period.

The closing date is 20 September 2023 and the consultation is available to view online via the link below:
