PPP Officers Visit Lapland
PPP officers made a scheduled visit to LaplandUK earlier this month as final preparations were underway for the fully immersive Christmas experience which opened in the middle of November.
Our officers visited the Christmas attraction near Ascot a few days before it opened to the public. PPP, as part of the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) process, organise the annual ‘blue lights’ walk round of the Lapland site with emergency services partners.
In reality PPP and LaplandUKs joint working begins around September time for this popular Christmas event. Each year the site is built from scratch on Crown Estate Land near Ascot.
The role of the Safety Advisory Group is to provide advice to organisations planning a public event. However some of the attendees of SAG do have legislative powers. This includes the Council’s Environmental Health Food Safety, Health and Safety Officers and Licencing Officers who need to ensure that the Licensing Act objectives as set out below are adhered to, as well as advising on public safety.
- The prevention of crime and disorder
- The promotion of public safety
- The prevention of public nuisance
- The protection of children from harm
PPP advise as part of the Safety Advisory Group and also carry out health and safety, food hygiene, noise and licensing visits prior and throughout the operation of event. Our Licensing officers were also on site checking the licensing and welfare of the animals (reindeers and huskies.)
Over 30,000 people are expected to visit LaplandUK which runs from November through until Christmas Eve.
