The aim of the Operation was to check for waste licence compliance, taxi licence compliance as well as road worthiness of vehicles.
In total 37 vehicles were checked for compliance, with two being seized. The drivers of those vehicles were driving without licences or insurance and one vehicle also contained potentially hazardous waste which is now subject to investigation. Fifteen Taxis were examined with one having its taxi plate removed due to the expiration of their operating licence. 18 vehicles were prohibited from onward travel until they were made roadworthy on site, or their weight was within their legally permitted weight. One vehicle was found to be nearly 500kgs overweight which could have devastating consequences on other road users in an emergency braking situation. Several vehicles needed to replace worn/illegal tyres, with one vehicle only having its MOT pass 48 hrs earlier with an illegal tyre.
Councillor Iskandar Jeffries, Executive Member for Culture, Delivery and Public Protection said ‘these joint service operations are a vital part of our work against rogue waste companies, fly tippers and illegal vehicles in or passing through our Borough. As you can see from the numbers this operation was very successful and I would like to thank Officers and our partners for tackling such an important issue.
