Scam Alert - Watch out for this fake text scam coming from your 'son or daughter'.
A number of residents have reported receiving texts from their son /daughter claiming to have lost their phone and they need money quickly to replace it. They say they are using a friend’s phone to contact the parent.
The text reads something like:
"hi mum lost my phone using friends phone I need money quickly to replace phone I'm in the shop now but I can’t buy it as my phone is lost so I can’t use my apple/ google pay"
Parent replies:
"who is this?"
Or
"is that you Susan...David etc. "
Reply comes back:
"mum its your favourite" or they choose the name given.
Around £10,000 has been lost to this scam alone in the last few months with £7000 recovered by PPP.
If you receive this text then independently contact your son/daughter to verify they are okay. Then report the text by forwarding it to 7726.
