Information for tenants and landlords
The PPP is responsible for enforcing all living standards in privately rented accommodation.
Contact us if you feel you are being exposed to any unreasonable hazards in your privately rented accommodation which you believe your private landlord is responsible for. If you are a landlord and are experiencing anti-social behaviour from your tenants please contact us to see if there is anything we can assist you with.
Electrical Safety Standards
MHCLG (Ministry Housing, Communities and Local Government) has published guidance on the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations, which came into force at the beginning of June 2020.
See here for full guidance.
Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
In line with The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015, we publish a Statement of Principles.
The document outlines the terms under which we enforce the law relating to smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and how we penalise those landlords found negligent. GOV.UK provides an explanatory booklet for landlords and tenants about the law.
Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Principles can be found below associated documents.
Energy Efficiency Standards
As of 1st of April 2020 domestic properties are required to meet the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards. GOV.UK has more information on Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards.
Disputes
If there are civil matters related to tenancy agreements, illegal evictions or deposit dispute, the First-Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber - Residential Property) is designed to settle them. More information is available at GOV.UK.
