Electric Blanket Testing
Make sure your electric blanket is safe to use this winter.
We are pleased to say our Trading Standards team, in partnership with Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, are able to offer electric blanket testing at 4 different venues this year.
Some of the reasons why an electric blankets fails the tests:
- Because they were over 10 years old and had no safety features built into the controller.
- Because of a leakage of voltage to the surface of the blanket.
- The elements were able to move around inside the blanket with the potential to rub together and cause a short circuit.
- Elements were not secured within the blanket and were exposed to the surface.
- Power lead fasteners were broken and unable to be secured.
- The surface of the blanket was worn, exposing the elements.

If you're unable to make these dates
If you are unable to get your electric blanket tested on one of the dates please check for wear and tear and frayed wires before using it this winter. If it is over ten years old we strongly recommend that you replace the blanket.

Timings are from 9:00am 3:30pm. Each testing slot is 30 mins long. There are a limited number of slots available and you must book before attending.
- CANCELLED - 31st October : Theale Fire Station , Wigmore Lane, Theale. RG7 5HH
- 1st November : Newbury Fire Station, Hawthorn Road, Newbury. RG14 1LD
- 2nd November : Wokingham Fire Station, Easthampstead Road. RG20 2EH
- 3rd November : Crowthorne Fire Station, High Street, RG45 7AH
