Kaspa’s Bracknell scoops five-star hygiene rating following work with council health professionals

A Bracknell dessert parlour has scooped a five-star rating for hygiene and praise from environmental health experts for its new and updated COVID-19 control measures.

Last month, Kaspa’s in Bracknell town centre (located under Royal Winchester House) voluntarily agreed to close temporarily following concerns by the council’s environmental health and public health teams after a COVID-19 outbreak at the eatery.

Just four weeks later, the business has been praised for implementing much improved COVID-19 controls and measures. It has been awarded five stars as part of its first full food hygiene inspection - the highest possible award for hygiene compliance.

The result follows intensive work by the council’s teams and the restaurant to ensure that it is a safe and secure place for residents and visitors to eat.

Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, Chair of the Local Outbreak Control Board, said: “Congratulations to Kaspa’s for this excellent achievement and for taking on board all the advice and guidance our public health and environmental health teams have supplied. “This is a real success story, not only for Kaspa’s and our town centre, but also for our outbreak control plan, which aims to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Bracknell Forest.

“By working really hard with businesses when we have concerns around health and safety and the spread of COVID-19, we are able to take swift action and turn around issues which could put our residents and visitors at greater risk of contracting and spreading the virus.”

A spokesperson from Kaspa’s Bracknell said: “Thank you to everyone at Bracknell Forest Council for the ongoing support and guidance, which has helped us achieve a five-star hygiene rating and be commended for our current COVID-19 control measures.

“When the outbreak happened back in September, we made it clear that our customers’ safety was paramount and promised to take on board all advice, carry out a deep clean and put additional safety measures in place. We have also put in place enhanced social distancing measures and are limiting the number of customers in-store.

“As a result of the expert advice and guidance and the hard work of our staff, we are delighted to have been awarded the highest mark for hygiene in our first ever full inspection.”
