Looking for a new puppy to welcome into your home and lives?

Then please read this first:

The COVID pandemic and the resulting lockdowns have seen an increase in the price of a new puppy, with some puppy breeds selling for over £3000.

This in turn has led to an increase in unscrupulous puppy farms popping up to meet the demand, and illegal puppy imports.

Puppies bred on puppy farms are much more likely to have serious, often fatal, health issues as well as social and behavioural problems.

We’re urging everyone who’s looking for a new dog to follow some simple guidelines when purchasing.

CONSIDER a rescue dog. There are many, many dog rescue centres across the UK with thousands of rescue dogs looking for a home. All dogs will have had a health check and as much background information as possible will be provided by the rescue centre.

ALWAYS see puppy and their mum together at their home and make sure to visit more than once. Never agree to met the dog in other locations, such as car parks.

NEVER pay a deposit up-front without seeing the puppy and the mother in person.

INFORMATION on the breeder. Are they licensed? Breeders must now be licensed. Not sure if your breeder is licenced? Then contact us to check.

NO RUSH - Visit more than once. Don’t feel pressured to make a snap decision. Making the right decision is better than a rushed one.

EVIDENCE of health and breeders intention. Ask lots of questions and make sure you see all vital paperwork, such as a puppy contract - which gives lots of information about their parents, breed, health, diet, the puppy's experiences and more. Reputable breeders will be asking you lots of questions too. They will want to make sure their puppy is going to a good, safe home.

Report it if you have any doubts or feel pressured to buy. Or want to check the person selling the puppy is licensed to do so.
