Noise Complaint from Bird Scarer

A noise complaint was recently received about a noisy bird scarer in West Berkshire, which one of our officers went out to investigate.

We are coming into the time of year when farmers have started putting down seeds. Many farms will rely on auditory bird scaring devices, alongside visual devices, for the first few weeks to protect their crop so it can establish. The bang noises may be heard the sound in proximity of farmland.

Bird scarers are not illegal, however they should be used within the accepted guidelines. When dealing with complaints relating to bird scarers, our Environmental Health team follow the advice contained within the National Farmers Union Bird Scarer Code of Practice, see below:

If you’re troubled by a neighbouring bird scarer tell us about it by completing our online form here. Please try to provide details of the exact location of the scarer and name of the person who is responsible for the land.
