PPP Autumn Electric Blanket Testing Showed 76% of Electric Blankets Tested Failed Safety Check

At the end of October and early November PPP officers, in Partnership with Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue and with testing from G.E.M.S (SW) Limited, conducted free electric blanket testing for local residents. 76% of the blankets tested failed the test and were recommended not to be used.

The testing sites were:

  • Theale Community Fire Station
  • Newbury Fire Station
  • Wokingham Fire Station
  • Crowthorne Fire Station

The results were as follows:

In total 17 blankets were tested, with only 4 passing with no faults. 13 failed the safety test and were recommended not to be used.

We would also like to remind residents that they should check the dates on their hot water bottles, as it is recommended these be replaced every three years.
