24th October 2023 - Press Release – Trader previously sentenced to imprisonment for fraud has £44,132 confiscated under Proceeds of Crime Act 2002

Daniel Fidler, aged 30 from Bournemouth, had a confiscation order made against him at Reading Crown Court on 19th October 2023 ordering him to pay £44,132 under the 2002 Act.

The confiscation proceedings followed Mr Fidler’s sentencing to a total of 38 months immediate custody on 30th May 2022 at Reading Crown Court. Mr Fidler had previously pleaded guilty to seven counts of fraud under the Fraud Act 2006 and seven offences contrary to the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

A financial investigation and lengthy confiscation proceedings was conducted by officers from the Public Protection Partnership (PPP) Trading Standards Service supported by the PPP Joint Case Management Unit.

The money will now be collected by the court’s enforcement unit and all of it will be distributed to victims and their families from the original prosecution. Mr Fidler has 3 months to pay or faces 30 months (2.5 years) imprisonment if he does not pay.

Commenting on the case Cllr Iskandar Jefferies, Executive Member for Culture, Delivery and Public Protection at Bracknell Forest Council said “These were serious crimes that resulted in an immediate custodial sentence in 2022. I am pleased that through the work of our Public Protection Service that we have been able to recover this sizeable amount of money to go some way to compensating the victims’. “.
